Matte Corbin Mahogany

The Master bedroom now has a Matte Corbin Mahogany Engineered Hardwoord floor. Sounds impressive, right? I picked this floor up at the Home Depot in Houston last week, at a great bargain price. It was easy to put in and looks pretty nice, if I do say so myself.

What still needs to be done is the baseboards finish. As I still have some Cedar left, I will use that to make the baseboards.
Hopefully I will get that done tomorrow.
Update: The baseboards are in now (Thursday). I did not put up a new room picture, as it’s hard to see from a distance, but it looks finished now. The baseboards were made from the seemingly everlasting stock of surplus cedar. It was a bit of work, as I first had to convert my router table to a table saw using the router mounting hole to fit the cordless circular saw, and as I like to keep all my ten fingers, I wanted to make sure it worked safely.
Then I took some thicker and larger cedar boards and sliced them up to baseboard dimensions, and used the router to round the top edge. I also made a threshold to make the transition from mahogany to tile (see below). The only downside of the relatively dark color, is that dust is well visible; I’ll have to get a swiffer for the bedroom.

Showers expected in Big Bend

Big Bend National Park is the most impressive park nearby (nearby is a relative thing in Texas: about a six hours drive). It’s a huge desert, and towards the Mexican border it has some dramatic mountain ridges.

I took this picture a few years ago myself, printed on my large format printer in Holland on vinyl using pdq (the software I developed for driving roll printers), and took it with me in my suitcase. So you now can take a shower standing in the middle of Big Bend, or soak in the freestanding tub.

Cooking

Don’t ask how, but somehow I managed to singlehandedly get my new electric stove from the bed of my truck, up the hill, up the stairs onto the deck, and into the kitchen. I’m glad I picked up a white one, as it does match the fridge well.

After cleaning up

It’s been a long time since it was as tidy as it now is in Ozuye Lodge. After some more staining it was time to clean up.
In this post you can see the result per room, but first a look of the newly stained extension (which had faded from its original unstained cedar color)

Before, the extension was grey, now it’s matching the logs again.

Federal Blue Table

As the walls and chairs are brown, I thought it would be nice to make the table a different color. As I still had some stain from the deck left, I used that;

The tone matched some of the blue-ish grey in the floor tiles.

Upstairs cleaned up

For the first time in two years the upstairs floor is pretty much empty and cleaned up. The result is a fairly large room, which will get a desk at the right hand side,
and a possibility for an extra bed on the left side.

I like the white ceiling and walls, as they emphasise the cedar rafters and logs.

Cabin Rules

Although technically, I prefer referring to Ozuye Lodge as a log home rather than a log Cabin ( as cabin really doesn’t do justice to a home of this size. People think of a tiny 1 bedroom 1 bathroom home when they think of a log cabin) most people refer to a structure like this as a cabin. For Christmas I received the beautiful sign below from Bob & Paulette;

It got a nice spot next to the door. Some of the rules have been followed, some not yet, but I hope to complete the list soon,
although fishing is not really my thing, so I will likely skip that one, even though I’m told there’s great Bass to be caught in Canyon Lake.

Fire pit definitely is not the pits

Today was sunny and without wind. But not hot or even warm, so the fire pit comes to the rescue;
It’s now 7:30 PM (19:30) and I’m outside on the deck next to a blazing fire pit.

There’s a full moon and no wind. All I can hear is some dogs barking in the distance and the odd car driving by about a mile away.

That round little dot above the fire is the full moon.
It’s now a lot easier to navigate on the deck at night, thanks to the smart deck light,
which turns on at sunset and off at 11:30 PM (or when I tell Siri to)

The hat by the way is from Cavenders, so my first hat that wasn’t made in China.
I went to Cavenders with Arnoud to get a nice hat, looked at Stetson (which is supposed to be the best US made hats)
but found this one to be more comfortable, and easier on the wallet too.
